How to Check for Updates

Updates are posted several times a year. For Apple and Windows versions purchased from acastat.com, use the "Check for Updates" module in the Help menu to download AcaStat, Clarity, and StatCalc program updates and patches. We recommend you use this feature periodically to ensure you have the most recent version. See AcaStat update 10.1.16 for information regarding a bug when trying to download a Mac update. Help with updates.

If you purchased software through the Mac App Store, you will be automatically notified of updates when approved by Apple Store.

  • Improved the SumStats history arrows so the forward and back arrows are disabled if the stored history cannot change due to reaching the maximum or minimum number of stored items.
  • Improved the display of historical data in SumStats when moving among statistical procedures. In the prior version, clicking on a SumStats procedure with historical statistics displayed an empty data field instead of the last historical record.

New Features:
  • Added a forecast line chart that includes weighted averages and exponential smoothing. An options window allows edits to weights and exponents used in the forecast models. Example data is provided via the Data Examples pull-down menu. The procedure saves a summary data table in the Output log.
  • Added warning regarding proportion margin of error and z-tests to ensure data entry uses proportions instead of percentages (i.e.; system requires values < .99 for proportion margin of error and for z-test population and sample values).
  • SumStat output for proportion margin of error includes a conversion from proportions to percentages.
  • To improve readability the data labels for line charts default to black instead of the line color.

This update contains new features and stability improvements.

New Features:
  • Updated menus to enable Data spreadsheet edits and Doc link to QuickStart overview pdf.
  • Enabled sorting of the Variable listbox. Other lists must stay nonsortable.
  • Updated Help system to incorporate the Application Help, How To Guide, Statistics Glossary, and a new annotated Application Overview into one on-line Help system.
  • Added right click feature in Output tab to temporarily change the output font style for viewing and printing.
  • Added right click to the Log Listbox.
  • Replaced the 2014 General Social Survey (GSS) example data file with 2016 GSS.
  • Added menu items to the View, Data, and Help pulldown menus.
  • Added a note in the chi-square output to explain why agreement statistics are not reported (i.e., Kappa requires an equal number of rows and columns in the contingency table).

Bug Fixes:
  • Corrected error in the data dictionary procedure that failed to output the last four value category labels.
  • Updated the random sampling procedure to exclude missing values from the sampling routine.

This update contains new features and stability improvements.

New Features:
  • The initial view has been changed to display the Options panel instead of the Explore panel so new users can view all analysis features when opening AcaStat.
  • The Frequencies procedure has been improved to display the horizontal bar chart when the Options panel is visible. Only the last variable is shown in the bar chart. The output for all variables in the Analysis listbox is stored in the Output Log.
  • Descriptives now displays the variable name instead of variable label in the Explore tab.
Bug Fixes:
  • Mac users only: corrects failure to download updates. This bug does not affect purchases through Apple App Store. Licensed users can request a special update link by contacting support@acastat.com.
  • Explore correlation procedure saved explore listbox contents that resulted in hiding full numerical display (e.g. 1,000 was saved as 1).

  • Corrected bug that removed the observations column in the data spreadsheet when running Recode operations.

6/26/17 — AcaStat 10.1.12

New Features:
  • This update adds the ability to hide the Format module in the Data tab.
  • Automatic decimal formatting has been added to the Descriptives output displayed in the Explore tab.

4/20/17 — AcaStat 10.1.11

This update contains stability improvements and bug fixes.

New Features:
  • Added View menu item to View/Hide procedure options panel.
  • Added link in Explore startup display to View/Hide procedure options panel.
  • Added note to crosstabulation output to clarify why agreement statistics are not reported so the user can resolve improper table specification.
  • The data spreadsheet has been enhanced to add 50 rows when the data file has zero observations.
Bug Fixes:
  • OLS regression under certain rare data conditions was failing to converge properly.
  • Corrected error where the Epi Curve chart failed to show percentages in the columns.

  • An Add Rows option for the data spreadsheet is now included in the Edit menu.
  • Improved formatting for Windows users.
Bug Fixes:
  • Corrected error where the procedure running notice remained active after running a procedure on large data files.
  • Improved drag and drop of AcaStat data files into Clarity desktop icon to ensure the imported data file is visible after import is completed.
  • Corrected missing observation numbers in the data spreadsheet when adding rows.

11/7/16 — AcaStat 10.1.9

This update contains stability improvements and bug fixes.

New Features:
  • Updated control layout in the procedure options module. Added combo button for procs using decimals in options panel.
Bug Fixes:
  • Recode module failed to display selected variable name for all tabs.
  • Data format did not load proper labels for Missing data "<" and ">".
  • Corrected error that allowed variable drag and drop in the random sample procedure.

10/1/16 — AcaStat 10.1.7

This update contains stability improvements and bug fixes.

New Features:
  • A Strings Recode option has been added to the Recode module to simplify recoding and combining strings into meaningful values. The Strings option creates a new variable that recodes and combines string values into 1 to 12 numerical categories. The recode procedure also adds value labels to the data file for improve reporting.
  • The Find and Replace recode option has been improved to allow more refined identification and replacement of values or strings that are embedded in cell contents. Prior versions required that the entire cell content had to match the search criteria.
  • The Documents menu includes a link to download a free version of the Applied Statistics Handbook in pdf or iBook format.
Other:
  • The Recode menu was improved to show more procedure specific instructions upon display of the selected recode operation.
  • The Duplicate option in the Compute recode tab has been changed so it will duplicate string or numerical variables.
  • Fixed error where the Pareto Sort chart failed to display the variable label for string variables.

This update contains stability improvements and bug fixes.

New Features:
  • Improved the display and analysis of international decimal indicators.
  • Example data with decimal values are automatically converted to match the locale decimal indicator (comma or period).
  • Updated average CPI (U.S.) for 2015 and added the semi-annual CPI for 2016.
Other:
  • Updated Statistics Glossary
  • Improved drag and drop functionality for data files, so data manager appears after loading of data.
  • Changed Decision table payoff values from left aligned to right aligned and removed the addition of one too many columns when formatting the table.
